A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued beginning at Midnight tonight for the following counties in Iowa, Mitchell, Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Floyd, Chickasaw, Fayette, Clayton, Jefferson, Henry, Des Moines, Van Buren, Lee, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine, Scott, Keokuk, Washington and Louisa. This will be in effect until Tuesday afternoon and evening. At that time A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect at 6pm Tuesday for the following counties, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine, Scott, Keokuk, Washington, Louisa, Jefferson, Henry, Des Moines, Van Buren and Lee. A series of storm systems will effect the area between tonight and Christmas Eve. The first comign tonight which may dump anywhere between 1-5 inches of snow across the advisory area. Then on Tuesday afternoon, another storm is expected to move in and dump an additional 4-8 inches of snow and sleet (Sleet mainly in extreme SE Iowa into Illinois) for a combined total of 5-13 inches of snow and sleet. With the holiday approaching, travel may become tricky this week with this one two punch. The storm should exit by Christmas Eve night and Christmas will be sunny and in the 20s.
