COLD BLAST: Temperatures will begin their tumble to or below zero today with a sharp cold front making its way through the state. Readings will top out in the middle to upper 30s north to 40s to near 50 south before northwesterly winds kick in and temps begin to tumble. Tonight will see readings drop to near or just below zero near the Iowa Minnesota border to the lower and middle teens south with wind chills easily dropping well below zero with gusty winds.

FLURRIES: A few flurries or snow showers are possible on Sunday as a weak disturbance sweeps southeast with the cold push of air. There may be a dusting of snow with this, but no more than that. Highs Sunday will be in the single digits near the Minnesota border to the lower 20s far south. Sunday night will see many areas north of Interstate 80 drop below zero with single digits above zero south.

SOARING TO SEASONAL: The weather pattern continues dry into next week with readings slowly climbing back to seasonal levels by the middle to end of next week. The next chance of snow is possible Tuesday with another disturbance from the northwest and again later in the week.

END OF MONTH STORM: The GFS Model run is showing once again a storm around the 29th-30th of this month that could impact the state and the midwest with some major snow accumulations. This is still more than 10 days out but will need to be watched in future runs. Cold air looks to return thereafter but nothing like the readings we’ll be seeing Sunday through early this coming week.
