WARM DAYS: Ahead of the approaching cold snap, we’ll be having some wonderful warm weather with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 40s and 50s. This will melt a little more of the snow that is still on the ground in a few areas of the state. Saturday will be a bit cooler as the cold front will sweep across the state during the day with readings dropping by the afternoon hours.

TAKING THE POLAR PLUNGE: The cold front will bring reality back to the state by Sunday into early next week with very cold air coming in from the northwest. Highs Sunday may struggle to get into the teens across a good portion of the state. Lows Monday morning will be at or below zero statewide, with highs again in the upper single digits and lower teens. There could be a few snow flurries Sunday but nothing more than that. Monday looks to be dry with Tuesday the beginning of a rebound back toward seasonal levels.

MOVIN ON UP: What’s goes up, must come down. To balance that, once temperatures go down, they will come up again and they begin to Tuesday with a warm front that could bring another slight chance of flurries to the state. By late next week however, we could be back in the 30s, perhaps even the 40s again (given lack of snow cover in keeping temperatures from climbing). A system could effect us again late next week with a slightly better chance of precip, but that looks minimal as of now.

LOOKIE HERE: GFS now is showing a snow storm toward the end of the month. If the model is true, this could be the next best chance of precipitation, in just under two weeks. Temperatures will be going up and down during this time, but nothing as of now indicates any more cold intrusions similar to the one coming Sunday into next week. We’ll have to wait for any trends.
