COLD AIR COMES BACK: Temperatures today will be taking a nose dive into the teens and 20s by late this afternoon. Breezy conditions out of the northwest will have wind chills down to near or below zero in many areas. A wave along the departing front may bring a few flurries or some light snow to the southeastern counties tonight into early Sunday with perhaps an inch possible for areas east of a Keosauqua to Muscatine line.

SEASONALLY SPEAKING: Readings next week will stay near seasonal levels in the 20s with a few mid to upper teens in the heavier snow packed areas (there aren’t many left). Lows will be in the single digits and lower teens statewide. A slow moderation toward the end of the week will be thwarted by another push of cold air Friday with an Alberta Clipper type system that won’t bring any snow, just more cold from Canada. We could get some light snow by next weekend, but that’s looking iffy at this time as well.

LOOKING OUT: No big changes in store as we look toward the end of the month. Don’t see any big warm ups, nor really big systems run to run. It does look to stay near seasonal levels with some brief warmups that are soon tempered by another cold shot from the northwest with some light snow sprinkled in here and there.
