Snow, moderate to heavy at times, some mixed with some thunder and lightning continues over a large portion of the state this evening. Travel is not advised over most of the state, the exception the far northwestern counties. Tow bans are in effect on many roads and these will continue at least through tomorrow night, if not Friday. Snowfall amounts are still on target at this time with up to a foot possible across central into northeastern Iowa. Lighter amounts to the southeast will be due the widespread amount of rain and thunderstorms that have occurred in those areas.
The snow will taper off from west to east during the morning and afternoon hours. The winds however will be the main story on Thursday. Winds sustained at 25-40mph with gusts over 50mph at times will lead to blizzard conditions over a large portion of the state. This will make many roads hazardous if not impassable. There is no need for you to travel tomorrow as many businesses and schools have already announced closures for the day Thursday. It is best to stay at home and indoors whenever possible until the storm has departed late Thursday night into Friday.
