VERY WARM: The springlike air continues today with some rain showers possible as well mainly in the eastern half of the state. Readings today will be in the 50s and 60s with some areas in the southeastern counties possibly getting close to or above 70. A frontal system will move through the state bringing the chance of rain to the area. Some isolated thunderstorms could be possible as well over the southeastern counties.

STAYING ABOVE: Temperatures will cool down this week after the passing of the front but will still remain above seasonal averages. Highs in the 40s to the lower 50s will be the norm through Thursday when another front drops readings a bit further. This front will also bring a isolated chance of rain as well. Rainfall amounts from both systems, today and Thursday will be light, a tenth or two at most.

SUNDAY STORM: The next significant system to come through the state will be on Sunday and this one could bring the first snow of the year. A system will dive into the desert southwest the middle of this week and then move northeast just to the south and southeast of the state, putting us on the colder side of the storm. Ahead of it on Sunday a warm front will be along or just south of the Iowa Missouri border, giving many in the state an easterly wind and drizzle or light rain. If enough cold air gets trapped however, some of this precipitation could be in the form of sleet or ice, but we’re not going to be that detailed this far out quite yet. The system’s main effects on the state will be next Monday through early Tuesday. This can still change on the next model runs, so be aware.
