TWO MORE DAYS: More warm weather will continue for at least the next two days with readings in the 50s and 60s for highs with plentiful sunshine both days. Wednesday will have more wind from the south and southwest than today but it shouldn’t be strong enough to bring increased risk of wildfires especially in the severest drought areas in western and northern Iowa.

SEASONALLY SPEAKING: A cold front will move through on Thanksgiving day that may bring a shower or two across the state. The amounts are expected to be rather light with many areas getting a tenth or less. Some areas may not even get a shower. But readings will certainly take a dive toward seasonal with highs back into the 40s and some 30s on Friday through the weekend. This looks to continue as well into next week also.

FEELING COLD: Signs are that much colder air may be in the offing as we head toward the month of December. The NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) is showing a turn negative, this means more chances of cold air plunging south from the arctic into the upper midwest and across the eastern half of the country. The GFS run also is showing this as well, with readings possibly getting into the 20s for highs in the first week of December. Precipitation is possible as well but looks to remain light.
