VERY HOT!!!: A few days of very hot weather are in store for the state today (see video for forecast). Temperatures well into the 90s possible and possibly a century mark or two. Some record highs are possible but some mixing of the air may just miss those marks. Remember the rules with regards to heat if you’re going to be outdoors for a long period of time the next 2 days.

ISAAC: Hurricane Isaac made landfall last evening at the southwest pass of the Mississippi River Delta southeast of New Orleans as a 80mph category 1. This storm is moving slowly to the northwest and that’s expected to continue today as it moves through Louisiana. It’s becoming more and more likely that Iowa is going to get some impacts from this system. Many more models have it either coming through the state or just missing the state by less than 50 miles. The current NHC track has the center of the Isaac remnant near Canton MO Saturday night at 7pm. Canton MO is only 20-30 miles south of Keokuk. The heavy rainfall from this system will miss the state as we’ll be in the north and west sides of the system, also known as the dry side. However far southeast Iowa, Burlington, Fort Madison and Keokuk could get an inch of rain from this system with lighter amounts north and west. The main window of rain right now looks to be late Friday night through early Sunday morning before the remnant moves far enough to the east.

MORE RAIN: Then if you thought that wasn’t going to be enough rain, the Labor Day weekend will end with another storm coming from the west that may bring another chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. This will also bring cooler weather to the state as we head into the first full week of September by that point. The pattern continues to look somewhat active into the middle of the month as well.
