ONE MORE DAY: The heat will be very extreme today with temperatures well into the triple digits in most of the state. The only exception will be far NW Iowa which will see the passage of the cold front first, readings there will be in the lower to middle 90s. There is a slight risk of severe weather today and tonight for the entire state. The main threats would be from large hail and damaging winds. These storms will be very isolated however, so some areas may not even get any rainfall from this system. We can hope for the best however.

SEASONAL: Readings will be back into the 80s to near 90 for the rest of the week and into the weekend with slightly warmer readings into next week. There is another chance of rain on Sunday into Monday with a disturbance moving through. Again the storms will be very isolated here as well, but we’ll look to that when we get this cold front out of the way.

NORTHWESTERLY FLOW: The GFS is wanting to put the state in between the heat to our south and west and the cooler air to the north and east. With that, we’ll be in a northwesterly flow coming out of Canada. This will keep readings seasonal or at least close to seasonal levels if this pans out. this could also bring some precipitation with some regularity but it’s still too early to determine amounts at this time. It doesn’t look like any drought busting rains are in the forecast over the next two weeks.
