GETTING HOT: It’s going to get hotter today with temperatures well into the 90s if not a few locations getting to and above the century mark. Heat indices will exceed 100° by midday and continue climbing into the 102-108° range by mid to late afternoon across the state. A Heat Advisory is in effect for northwestern and northeastern Iowa through tonight and this may get expanded and or extended through at least Tuesday before a cold front moves into the state that could bring some relief.

RELIEF SPELLED R.A.I.N: A cold fornt will move into the state late Tuesday and especially Wednesday and Thursday with a chance albeit slight of some showers and thunderstorms. These will be very isolated and not everyone is going to receive rain out of this system. But any locale that does get some of the liquid gold could get a quarter to half inch by Thursday night. The front will dissipate and the heat moves back in just in time for RAGBRAI that begins in Sioux Center on Sunday morning.

RAGBRAI: The 40th annual Register’s Great Bike Ride Across Iowa begins on Sunday in Sioux Center peddling to Cherokee, the first overnight stop Sunday night. It’s going to be a blast furnace Sunday by the looks of it with readings in the middle to upper 90s with heat indices at or above 100°. If anyone is going to be participating in RAGBRAI this year, be sure to have plenty of water with you as you ride along the route and follow all rules regarding heat safety.
