ENCORE FOR HEAT: Heat returns today and will last for a few days through the middle of next week when some slight relief is in store. Until that time, sunshine and temperatures well into the 90s with heat indices at or exceeding 100° will be likely across the state.

RAIN HOPES: The next chance of rain looks to come from a cold front that will try as it might to move into the state late Tuesday but especially on Wednesday with some shower and thunderstorm chances increasing at that time. The front will stall and become defuse for a few days as a battle wages between the heat bubble to the southwest and a high pressure system over Hudson Bay that will be nosing into the Great Lakes at mid-week. Temperatures will cool slightly into the upper 80s to lower 90s, warmest west, with some isolated chances of storms. The front dissipates by the coming weekend and the heat looks to return again in time for RAGBRAI to begin but it looks to last only a day or two before a slow return towards seasonal averages.
