STILL DRY: Even with a few showers and storms that happened to fire yesterday afternoon across the state, many who did receive some of the golden liquid didn’t get much more than a tenth or so. It will be dry for the rest of the week until a warm front moves into the state late Friday through Saturday. At that time we could see some shower and thunderstorm activity. Along with the warm front will be the beginning of a possible heat wave the following week.
HEAT WAVE BY POPULAR DEMAND: I’m sure those that went through the last heat wave aren’t looking forward to the return of the unblessed form of mother nature, but the GFS is showing the 594mb ring of heat coming back next week and planting itself firm across the plains and Intermountain west. Iowa will be in the far eastern part of the ridge which may bring us some chances of rainfall, but this will be isolated if at all. Sunday and Monday could see some possible MCS activity but the last time such a event was forecast it didn’t occur, so don’t get your hopes up on that yet. This heat wave right now may possibly breakup just before RAGBRAI is set to begin, but that’s not entirely out of the question yet either. More will need to be known before we can give a positive outlook that far in advance.
