Flash Flood Watch Sunday Night in NW Iowa

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch effective this evening through early Monday morning for the following counties, Monona, Burt NE, Thurston NE, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Ida, Lyon, O Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Sioux, Woodbury, Jackson MN, Nobles MN, Rock MN, Martin MN, Dakota NE and Union SD. Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening across the area and may train over the same areas during the evening and overnight hours. Some of these areas have had some decent amounts of rain over the last week and with more heavy rain expected may cause some creeks and streams to have rapid rises if one or more storms move over the same areas. 1-2″ of rain is possible through Monday morning before the threat moves off to the east. If a Flash Flood warning is issued, be sure to head for higher ground if you’re in a flood prone area and to turn around, don’t drown if you drive into an area that is covered by water.
