SEVERE WEEKEND: It will be a severe weather weekend and a start of hot humid weather at least later today and especially on Sunday across the state. The severe weather risk looks to remain confined to the northern and western parts of the state today. Main threats will be large hail and damaging winds. There could be a tornado or two across the Siouxland during the afternoon and evening hours. Sunday the severe weather threat looks to hold off at least until the afternoon, there is a slight risk of severe weather Sunday for a large portion of the state except the east. All modes of severe weather are possible Sunday, however many of the parameters aren’t showing a lot of action with regards to Sunday, which is leaving us a bit skeptical of either the possible severe weather threat or what the models are showing us for Sunday. In any case Sunday will be quite warm to down right hot, readings will be well into the 90s across a good deal of the state, some areas may make the mid 90s. With this heat and humidity, heat indices will easily approach or exceed 100° Sunday. Make sure to take your heat precautions when venturing out and about on Sunday. Monday could see more severe weather across the central and eastern counties as the cold front moves in to take the hot humid conditions off to the east.

COOL DOWN: A couple of days of nice cool weather will be in store by this point after the weekend with some pleasant readings in the 70s for highs and lows in the upper 40s into the 50s. Some rain is possible Wednesday night, otherwise it looks to remain mainly dry for the rest of the week.
