MORE THREATS TODAY: There is a slight risk of severe weather again today and tonight for a large section of the state. The main threats will be from large hail and damaging winds. The tornado threat looks to remain just to our north over southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin, although we can’t rule one out in far northern Iowa. A cold front will move across the state this afternoon and evening sparking off showers and thunderstorms along it. The only thing that may prohibit storm development is the capping layer which may prevent storms from firing, we’ll have to keep an eye on CINH values for any signs of a break in the cap. Along with that we’ll need a lifting mechanism (the front should suffice). Dew Points will be in the 50s to near 60 which is ample for severe weather. The threat will likely move out of the state by Midnight. Any rain that does fall especially in the eastern half will be much needed. Many areas in the east are entering their third week without a drop of rain and crops and yards are in desperate need right now.

WEEKEND: The holiday weekend will be one of those hot summertime weekend more thought of for the fourth of July than Memorial Day weekend. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will easily get close to or above 90° across the state with hot humidity. This could lead to heat indices approaching or exceeding 100° Showers and thunderstorms are possible on Saturday with the warm front moving through and again Monday as the cold front comes to bring cooler air back to the state to finish the month of May.
