Northwest Iowa Flooding Update

The National Weather Service in the Sioux Falls has issued two Flood Warnings for the Big Sioux River in Northwest Iowa until this weekend (see details below). Flooding has been reported in these areas.

A Flood Warning remains in effect for The Big Sioux River at Hawarden until Saturday Evening. At 7AM Thursday, the stage was estimated at 17.2 feet. Flood Stage is 15 feet. Current Forecast calls for the river cresting around 17.2 feet by 1PM Thursday, and fall below flood stage Saturday, May 12th.

Another Flood Warning remains in effect for The Big Sioux River, this time at Akron, until Sunday Afternoon. At 8AM Thursday, the stage was 17.8 feet. Flood Stage is 16 feet. Current Forecast calls for the river cresting at 18.2 feet by Friday and fall below flood stage on Saturday, May 12th. At flood stages at 17 feet, about 6,500 acres of farm land are flooded.
