Severe Weather Threat for Saturday

The parade of severe weather threats continues into the weekend with a slight risk of severe weather for areas in Iowa west of an Osage to Vinton to Centerville line. The main threats with any storms that develop are likely to be large hail and damaging winds. The hatched area in central into western Iowa could see more significant severe weather in terms of hail possibly upwards of Golf Ball sized, winds over 70mph and perhaps a few isolated tornadoes. Along with the severe weather threat, comes the threat of heavy rain. As mentioned on the Friday threat post, with a lot of rain projected to fall across the state, some of the storms may drop locally heavy rain quite quickly which may lead to rapid rises in area creeks and streams. This could be true over areas that see training thunderstorms. Any threat this far out however should be taken with caution, there are several days of severe weather before this time and boundaries, frontal systems could change which could lead to a widespread change in the severe weather outlook in this area.
