FUN!: A sarcastic term for the storm that is on the way today. It’s still up in the air where the heaviest snow will fall and we may not know until it begins falling later today. Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories have been issued. Some estimates of 6-10″ are possible. HOWEVER, some of the snow will melt on contact, so you may get 6-10″ but may only have 3-5″ as a snow depth at the end of it all. Right now according to a number of the models (RUC,HRRR,GFS and NAM) it looks to be that the US Hwy 30 and Interstate 80 corridors from Davenport to near Des Moines and then northwestward toward Sioux and Lyon Counties look to be the places that have the best shot at getting the “heaviest” totals. Right now our estimate is between 3-7″ with isolated totals approaching 10″ if some thundersnow develops. The snow will being this morning with the heaviest likely occurring during the late morning into the evening hours before exiting Friday morning. The wind will pick up in the wake of the system thus some blowing and drifting could be possible as well through Friday.

MORE FUN!: Skipping the Sunday storm since it’s looking more like a wind producer for Iowa then a precipitation producer, we got another one in time for Iowa High School Girls State Basketball Tournament. This comes Tuesday into early Wednesday. Right now this looks to be more of a rain threat however, we can’t rule out any wintry precipitation with this system as yet. Once this system gets out of the way, we’ll be able to set our sights on this one. After that, another one could make an appearance next Friday!

IWB SPOTTERS!: We still need some spotters for the IWB Spotter Network, All you have to do is tweet or email us your high and low and any precipitation you have each day. The email is [email protected] or tweet the info to @iowawx
