RECORD HIGHS?: There may be some more January record highs across the state today with warm air filtering into the state ahead of a cold front expected on Wednesday. 50s will be widespread across the state with only far northeastern Iowa seeing a few upper 40s.

COLD BLAST: Cold air, or in many cases January temperatures and weather returns for an engagement at midweek bringing with it, the cold, the wind and some chances of snow. The GFS is very bullish on the snow with accumulating snow possible. The NAM shows nothing more than a dusting at best and that’s what seems more reasonable at this time. Readings will fall back into the 20s for highs and lows in the single digits and teens by Friday morning.

MORE ACTIVE?: The pattern looks to get more active over the next two weeks with decent chances of some precipitation across the area. Temperatures do rise back into the 30s by the weekend into early next week before another blast from Canada brings temperatures back to average. It’s looking like the storm track will be over the state as well, so the ground in two weeks time SHOULD have some snow on the ground looking at the model runs. How much? We can’t say for sure as yet.
