LIGHT PRECIP: A disturbance is moving through the state this morning and should be east of the area by mid to late morning. Another one will be in the offing later tonight into Friday with some rain possibly mixed with some sleet and snow over northern Iowa. Only about a tenth of an inch is possible with that system and no accumulating snow is likely.
COOLER THEN WARM AGAIN: Temperatures do take a tumble to begin 2012 with readings dropping back into the lower and middle 30s for highs and nighttime readings in the teens, which is still at or slightly above average. Then temperatures begin a slow climb once more toward the following weekend with 40s possible toward the end of next week.
FARTHER OUT: Close to the middle of January, the model wants to finally bring winter to the state, with cold arctic air and some moderate to perhaps heavy snow. We’ve seen this on model runs before and have disappeared on the next several runs, we’ll just have to wait as this is still two weeks away. A lot can happen in that time period.
