MORE PESSIMISTIC: The models are still diverging with regards to the storm system Monday and Tuesday of next week. The NAM and the GFS are projecting the heaviest snow over northern Missouri into west central Illinois, just clipping the southeastern corner of the state with possibly an inch or two. The GFS and NAM have become more and more pessimistic with regards to snow across the state over the last several runs with the snow moving further to the south and southeast, however the GEM Model continues to show a very good chance at some snow across a large portion of the state albeit light but still enough to dust the ground, with some heavier accumulations as well. Still with the differences in the models, we can’t really give a good forecast on the snow quite yet, but chances are it’s not looking good for most of the state at this time.
NEW YEAR: Heading to 2012, temperatures look to moderate with an influx of Pacific air. Temperatures may be in the 30s and 40s on New Year’s Day, but this is still more than two weeks away and is likely to change on many of the model runs moving forward.
