WET WEEK: It’s looking more and more like the storm next week will bring a lot of wet conditions to the state. Today, however will see no such thing with mostly sunny skies and highs climbing into the 30s statewide. There could be some fog in areas that do have snow on the ground into Monday morning. Monday will be cloudier with temperatures remaining in the 30s. There may be some drizzle or some sprinkles across the state but nothing much else. Some of it may freeze during the early morning hours. The main event of rain moves in Tuesday through early Thursday with some chances of light to moderate rain. The heaviest amounts will likely be over the southeastern half of the state where around 1-2 inches is possible. Lighter amounts to a quarter inch over the northwestern counties. The precipitation may briefly switch over to a mix or some snow as the precipitation ends on Thursday as colder air filters in behind the system. Any wintry precipitation will be light and not amount to more than a dusting or a trace at best, but if the cold air moves in sooner, we’ll have to change that.

WET DECEMBER: Looking further into the month, more storms with rain and not snow are possible through Christmas. Another storm by next weekend may put Iowa once again on the warm side and thus the precipitation will be in the form of rain once again. A few days before Christmas, another storm with rain may effect the state. We’ll see if this continues on the next several model runs.
