WEEKEND STORM: This weekend’s storm system is still projected to bring a plethora of precipitation to the state in the form of rain, sleet, and snow. The precipitation is likely to remain all snow or maybe a mix early NW of a Mason City to Omaha line. Areas southeast of a Davenport to Bloomfield line may see all rain with a brief mix at the end Sunday morning. In between the precipitation will start out as rain or slight mix with rain changing to a mix in the evening hours from west to east as colder air filters in. The precipitation should be a mix or all snow by the time the precipitation ends Sunday morning. Right now snowfall accumulations of about 3-5″ are possible across NW Iowa. HPC (not shown on video) is projecting about 2-4″ in the same area, with little if any accumulation SE of a Decorah to Des Moines to Bedford line. This may still get adjusted in the coming hours and we’ll have an update later today, with new forecast runs.

COLD BLAST: Much colder air will move into the state following this system with temperatures dropping into the 20s for highs, with single digits and teens for lows. Temperatures will rebound slowly through the rest of next week toward seasonal norms. Further out, temperatures look to stay close to average with some chances of some precipitation, but nothing too concrete this far out.
