PESKY ULL: As we enter another work week, we still have the pesky upper level low around bringing some chances of showers and isolated thunderstorms to the eastern half of the state. Some of the storms yesterday did produce some small hail and this could be possible again today, but there is a better chance of seeing some steadier rain. Rainfall amounts may vary from a quarter to 3 quarters of an inch. The heaviest rain amounts will be around the Tri-State region near Dubuque. There will likely be no rain chances west of Interstate 35. Showers are possible over the eastern counties on Tuesday as the upper level low begins to move to the east. Wednesday will be the first day that there will be no chance of rain statewide with sunshine and temperatures near seasonal norms.

ACTIVE OCTOBER: Past the seven day period the model shows some very active weather heading into the second week of October. One storm around the 6th could bring some widespread chances of rain to the state once more (this could be the next chance of rain for the western half of the state that doesn’t see any rain today). Another storm follows that once on the 11th that looks to be stronger with the possibility right now that some severe weather is possible just to the south of the state, however this is the first time we’ve seen this and it could go away on the next run.
