TODAY: Mostly Sunny skies will prevail across the state today with a few clouds from time to time. A great day to head to the State Fair or any Waterpark or swimming pool. Highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
THIS WEEK: The next chance of rain comes late Monday over western Iowa through Wednesday morning as the chances move off to the east. Amounts could be substantial but isolated. QPF shows a quarter to one inch, but the likely amounts will be up to a half inch with one inch in isolated areas. A cool high pressure moves into the state late Wednesday through Friday which could bring some cool morning lows especially Thursday morning where lows may dip into the lower and middle 50s.
IRENE: The main weather attention will turn to Irene which by late this week will be making a beeline for the south Florida Coast, possibly as a Hurricane. Currently there are Hurricane warnings along the southern Hispanola coast for the quick moving Irene. The storm is expected to be in the vicinity of Miami around Friday and then begin to move up the eastern seaboard through the weekend and Monday. This will cause the weather pattern here in Iowa to slow down. A storm system will be just to the west during the weekend with a few showers possible west of I-35 beginning Saturday.
SEPTEMBER: The first few days of September look rather tranquil outside of a cold front that may effect part of Labor Day Weekend. The main storm track will be at the US Canadian border with low pressures in Canada draping cold fronts into the states, one of which may move through Iowa around Labor Day that could kick up a shower or storm at that time.
