QUIET, COOL: A welcome change, temperatures in the 70s with mostly sunny skies. After a long hot summer, a few days like today and tomorrow will be a nice treat for those that have been waiting for the sultry weather to depart. There is a slight chance of some showers and storms across far southwestern Iowa on Wednesday otherwise the next chance of rain holds out until Friday with the next system moving in from the west.

FIRST STATE FAIR WEEKEND: Some early morning showers shouldn’t dampen the spirits of fairgoers on Saturday, the weekend will be wonderful, with mostly sunny skies after aforementioned rain, and highs a few degrees either side of 80 with nominal dewpoints around 60.

ACTIVE AUGUST: The month gets more active heading toward the middle to end of August with numerous storm systems moving in from the west and northwest. This may bring repeated chances at showers and thunderstorms with some shots of cooler air coming as well.
