SEVERE WX RETURNS: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight from central into western and southwestern Iowa, mainly along the cold front that will be draping across the state over the next several days. The main threat with any storms that develop will be damaging wind. The heat will be supressed into the eastern and southeastern counties where the Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect through the evening hours unless cancelled early. Temperatures will still be warm statewide, with readings in the upper 80s to middle 90s, but heat indices will be the highest where the warning is still in effect. There is also a risk of severe weather for Friday and Friday night for areas north of US Hwy 20. Damaging wind will likely be the main threat with any thunderstorm development there as well.

HEAT NEXT WEEK: There is some indications of the heat returning after a few day break next week. The model run shows it but it will not be as strong as the latest heat wave, although temperatures will climb back into the 90s with dewpoints likely around 70, this will produce heat indices back above 100° once again which may lead to Heat Advisories or Excessive Heat Warnings to be reissued at that time.

WX BLAST FROM PAST: We’re looking at interviewing any meteorologists, past or present that has worked in either television in the state or at any of the NWS offices that cover the state. If you have a suggestion of anyone to interview email them to [email protected]
