TRIPLE H: The beginning of a long duration heat wave is about set to begin across the state. Excessive Heat Watches and Warnings have been issued for most of the state through Tuesday at the earliest. There could be extension of these watches and warnings if the heat is forecast to persist. There is nothing short of a possible frontal passage by NEXT weekend that could spell the heat we’re about to experience. Highs during this time will be in the 90s with some locations possibly hitting 100°. With dew points likely to remain in the 70s for the period, heat indices will range between 100-115° with isolated higher readings. This will be dangerous heat for young children, the elderly and anyone who isn’t in the best of health.

SVR THREAT: There is a slight risk of severe weather across far northwestern Iowa for today and tonight. The chances will be very isolated and mainly further to the north over Minnesota, however any storm that develops across NW Iowa may have large hail and damaging wind threats. This is also where the main rain will be the next 5 days. There was bountiful amounts of rain yesterday morning across that area, with some flash flood warnings issued. The rest of the state especially south of Interstate 80 is below avg for July rainfall to date and is likely to get nothing over the next 5 to possibly 10 days.
