Long Heat Wave Ahead

First Five Days of Heat Wave at Des Moines

The state could be in for a long duration heat wave that may last more than a week or longer. It all begins on Saturday when the heat will be in full force across the state. Highs will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s statewide, with heat indices well over 100° if not approaching 110°. This will continue into next week (seen on graphic above) with highs in the 90s and lows in the middle 70s to near 80°. Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings are likely to be issued during this event, with heat indices remaining in the dangerous catagory every afternoon and evening through this time period. There is no real end in sight to the heat wave at least in the 7-10 day period, but one can only hope.
