Flooding

Too Much Rain

The Winner of the rainfall in Iowa on July 2nd. Springville where I currently reside. A post earlier suggested that 2.62 inches fell at Springville today. A later report has upped that. At the coop in Springville a total of 4.5 inches of rain fell. This led to numerous roads being washed out, the creek (East Fk Big Creek) to flood a nearby Horse Barn and pasture. Numerous homes had water in their basements. I witnessed at least one home being pumped out around 8pm. Another 3-5 homes near the creek may have flood damage as well. This was one of the few areas in the state that wasn’t effected by the Iowa Flood back in June. Nearby in Anamosa, over 2.5 inches of rain fell leading to street flooding. Anamosa was hard hit in the flood a few weeks ago with at least 2 levees breaking in town causing the athletic fields for the High School to be lost. Estimated totals close to 4-5 inches were also detected in O’Brien County in NW Iowa and in Clarke and Decatur Counties in SC Iowa from Grand River to Osceola.
