Today strong southerly breezes made it feel more like that of the dog days of August than mid fall. About the only way one could tell that it is fall is by seeing the fall colors that are currently around. Instead of light jackets like most would expect to need this time of year, many people were back in short sleeves with air conditioners being turned back on. The summery warmth is all thanks to a system passing through the Midwest pulling hot and humid air across much of Iowa and states to the south. The summer-like warmth was especially felt along and south of I-80 where highs in the middle to upper 80s and even a few lower 90s in the southeast Iowa. Numerous cities broke historical record high temperatures for today including Davenport, Des Moines and Omaha, old records that were set in the 1940s and 1950s. Nearly the entire state got a taste of warm air with the exception of the north and northwest which were held back into the 60s and 70s. Hope everyone enjoyed the summer-like weather as temperatures will cool off back down to more seasonal levels starting Wednesday.
