A Complex Mess with Oven Roasting by Thursday

A FEW COMPLEX EVENTS: The next few days will be very complex with chances of showers and thunderstorms mainly during the overnight hours across the state. We can’t rule out any activity during the day but this will likely be widely scattered at best. Highs today and Wednesday will be in the 80s to lower 90s across the state with the warmest readings in our southwestern counties especially Wednesday as the heat begins to move in. Some of the storms could be strong to severe but doesn’t look to be widespread at this point.

HEAT WAVE: It will be burning as we head into Thursday and Friday this week as high pressure settles over the area. This will bring very warm temperatures across the state with mainly sunny skies. Highs will be well into the middle and upper 90s with some century marks possible as well. Heat indices each day will be well in excess of 100-105 and could get as high as 110+. Excessive heat watches are in effect across the entire state and could be upgraded to a heat advisory or excessive heat warning. Make sure to take the typical precautions during this period. Models indicate that a front will try to move into the state this weekend which looks to bring the chance of rain back into the state and lower readings at least 5-10 degrees, however heat indices may still be close to 100 in some areas on Saturday at least.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The weather pattern looks to turn active as we head into next week as the main storm track looks to have its eyes set on the state. This would mean several chances of showers and storms next week, however uncertainty this far out is high with the timing. Through the end of the period over the first few days of August, the GFS is showing no other heat wave like the one we’ll see at the end of this week, but it doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
