More of that Calm Sunshine

No Video Today

SLIGHTLY CALMER: It will be calmer over the next two days with partly to mostly sunny skies around the state. Highs will range from the upper 70s over the northeastern counties to the middle 80s over the southwest. Any rainfall activity looks to hold off until the weekend at this point.

STORMY SKIES: Speaking of the storm this weekend, a frontal system will be approaching from the west on Saturday into Saturday night with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. There is a possibility that some of the storms could be strong, but we won’t know specifics quite yet. Rainfall amounts could be of some significance as well with some amounts around a half to one inch with heavier totals in any areas with repeated activity. Highs on Saturday will be in the 80s to lower 90s with increased humidity while Sunday will be a bit cooler and slightly drier albeit with the chance of rain mainly occurring during the morning hours in the eastern and southeastern counties.

NEXT WEEK: Temperatures next week look to drop into the 70s to lower 80s across the state as the heat is shunted to the south. There is still a chance of seeing some showers and storms Monday and Tuesday mainly in the southern and southwestern counties close to the edge of the heat ridge. A system is also seen on the GFS toward the end of next week with an isolated chance at a shower at that time, although it doesn’t look to be a strong system.

FURTHER ALONG: As we look into July, we first take a look at the 4th of July weekend (July 4th falls on a Monday), Saturday is shown to look a bit unsettled but not a complete washout and cool, Sunday a bit drier and a bit warmer with the big day having plenty of sunshine and readings in the upper 70s through the middle and upper 80s (still could change). The rest of the period shows reinforcing shots of air from the north with a ridge building over the west bringing sweltering heat to that part of the country. It will be something to keep our eyes on over the next few weeks.
