Severe Thunderstorm Watch #276 for Southern Iowa until 11:00 p.m.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch #276 has been issued for portions of southern Iowa, northeast Kansas, northern Missouri, and eastern Nebraska until 11:00 p.m. tonight.

Primary Threats Include:

  • Scattered Large Hail and Isolated Very Large Hail Events to 2.5″ in Diameter Possible
  • Scattered Damaging Wind Gusts to 70 MPH Possible

Summary: Strong-to-severe thunderstorms will continue to pose mainly a severe hail risk across eastern Nebraska into southern Iowa to the north of a surface front, while surface-based storms capable of hail/wind will continue to develop/intensify within a strong unstable environment near a surface front across far northeast Kansas and northern Missouri.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and do occasionally produce tornadoes.
