All of Iowa, Severe Weather

Scattered Storms Today, Stronger Wednesday

The Storm Prediction Center has lowered the risk of severe weather across the state today, however this does not put our risk of any severe storms today at zero. There may be some widely scattered storms that could become severe with hail and strong winds the main threats. The best chances of severe weather today will be west of the state in Nebraska and Kansas where there is a higher tornado threat. This looks to move into the state on Wednesday where SPC has a slight risk over a large portion of central and western Iowa.

There is some fluidity as to what storms we will get, the strength of said storms, any cloud debris and or boundaries left over from previous storms, and temperature and stability that may occur as well. This is what hampered some of the threat yesterday across the state with only a few warnings across our northwestern counties being the only action. There will be a down time during the morning and early afternoon hours where sunshine may break through once again. Temperatures today will be in the 70s and lower 80s across the state. It is still looking like the active weather is expected to continue through the rest of the week and into the holiday weekend. If anything changes we’ll let you know.
