A Few More Stormy Days – Iowa Weather Network Archives

STORMY SKIES: More showers and thunderstorms will be in the forecast over the next few days with some breaks here and there. One of those breaks looks to come later today into tonight before another system moves in late tonight over the western counties into Wednesday for the rest of the state. Highs today will range from the 60s in northeastern Iowa to the middle and upper 70s in southern and southwestern Iowa where they may see some sunshine after morning rainfall. Wednesday as mentioned will be rainy once again with the next system coming in from the west. Some of the storms may become strong to possibly severe during the afternoon. Highs on Wednesday will be in the middle and upper 60s northwest to the lower 80s over the southeast. Rainfall amounts through early Thursday morning could be on the order of a half to one inch with isolated heavier totals. (This does not include rain that has already fallen)

COOLING DOWN: As the system looks to depart early Thursday morning, temperatures will drop back into the 60s for highs Thursday and middle 50s to middle 60s on Friday. Thursday will see mostly sunny skies after some early morning cloudiness in our eastern counties. Friday on the other hand will see a few showers possible in the afternoon due to cold air aloft and daytime heating. These shower chances look to dissipate after sunset however. The cool weather looks to continue into the weekend as well with Saturday giving us some sunshine once again with readings in the upper 50s and lower 60s and Sunday a few degrees warmer with another system on its way in.

NEXT WEEK AND AHEAD: As we head into next week, a storm system will be skirting our southern counties with a chance of some rain. The better chances of showers and storms look to be south of the state. It also puts us on the cool side and we may see readings held down into the lower and middle 60s with mainly cloudy skies around. Next Tuesday looks to bring some sunshine back with 60s possible before more activity is seen by the middle of next week. Looking further into the extended period, the GFS shows a few systems moving in around the 21st and again on the 23rd with a quick moving flow from west to east. The weather is shown to calm a bit after that with readings look to stay close to seasonal levels for the most part. But anything can change.
