RAINY WEEKEND: A small break today will keep us dry, however it looks to be mainly cloudy for a large portion of the state with only the eastern counties seeing any substantial amount of sunshine. Highs today will be in the 50s to lower 60s. Rain will move into the state tonight and into Saturday and Sunday. This is likely to be an all-day rain on Saturday with few breaks in the activity. Highs on Saturday are likely to be held down into the lower and middle 50s for highs. The chances of rain look to drop as we head into Sunday as drier air comes in from the north. We are likely to remain cloudy though with readings in the 50s for the most part. Rainfall amount through the weekend look to be between a half and one inch give or take.
NEXT WEEK: As we look to next week, the weather pattern looks a bit quieter with quite a bit of dry time as well. We will have a disturbance that could skirt our northeastern counties late Tuesday into Wednesday with a chance of a shower but most areas look to stay dry through someday. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be in the 60s to near 70 with a slight cooling on Wednesday into the upper 50s northeast to the middle 60s. Winds turn out of the south as we head into next Friday and that should boost readings well into the 70s. It also looks to bring moisture into the state as well and with a system dropping in from the northwest, the chances of rain look to increase late next Friday into the following Saturday as well.
DOWN THE PATH: As we look further into what the GFS has in the extended period, Mothers Day weekend looks to be rather wet, if this model run is any indication. The storm mentioned previous is shown to stall over the state as we head into Mother’s Day Sunday (8th) and another system slowly moving through the state through the middle of the following week. Readings are likely to be held back a bit due to the amount of cloudiness and rain activity. The rest of the model run (through the 14th) looks fairly active with several systems bringing chances of precipitation each time. We’ll keep watching it.
