MIDDAY UPDATE: Storms Still on Track for Today

The latest look at the weather situation tonight continues to show the possibility of severe weather across the area. Dew points in the mid-to-upper 50s to even low 60s in many spots are being observed in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa early this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are developing along a line from Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Salina, Kansas and are moving to the northeast. As clearing has occurred in some spots, moderate instability has developed and is continuing to do so as indicated by mesoanalysis. Shear is also on the increase, nearing 35-45 MPH in some spots.

As storms continue to develop and push northeastward, some supercells will be possible with the threat of large hail and damaging winds the main concerns. The Storm Prediction Center is expected to issue a watch by 3:30 p.m. with a probability of watch issuance sitting at 80%. An enhanced risk of severe weather remains across mainly southeastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas, and far western Iowa.
