High temperatures today ranged from the mid 30s northwest to the mid 50s east. Low pressure over northwest Iowa had associated counter clockwise winds around this low… around 5-10 MPH for most sites. This system will move northeast along with the rain chances. Breezy northwest winds and cloudy conditions will be the story for the majority of the state tomorrow. With upper-level ridging on the return for the early part of the work week, dry and warmer air will return with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. However, a very strong low pressure system is pegged to fall out of Canada by next weekend, bringing cooler air back into the region in the 40s and 50s.

As far as precipitation chances go, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all appear to have shower chances embedded. Severe weather also appears possible during the afternoon hours Wednesday with the Storm Prediction Center outlining an elevated risk (15%) for basically the southeastern half of the state. Increasing instability and modest shear on Wednesday, as well as plenty of moisture ahead of a cold front, will all contribute into thunderstorms developing with large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado all possible. Models differ in regards to the exact timing and specifics of this event, so it would be a good idea to check in later for updated information.
