Mother Nature’s Love Letter or Cold Shoulder

No Video Today

COLD WINDS BLOW: Snow will be moving out of the state this morning and skies will be slowly clearing. Temperatures will be slowly dropping as well with highs likely occurring during the late morning and early afternoon before the slow fall. Highs in the teens and 20s will be commonplace. What else will be commonplace is sub-zero temperatures by Saturday morning. Lows will be in that category for most of the state except the far southern and southwestern counties which may just eek a few degrees above the zero mark. Saturday will see readings in the upper single digits northeast to near 20 southwest.

LOVING SNOW: Our next system looks to drop into the state late Saturday night into Sunday with a chance of some snow. It’s still a bit early to determine exact snow amounts at this time, but a few inches cannot be ruled out. We should know a bit better later today. Readings will warm back into the 20s for highs on Sunday into Monday.

WARMING UP: Another system drops through the state Tuesday of next week with a chance of some snow, but thereafter temperatures look to take an upswing perhaps back above the freezing mark for a large portion of the state. The main sticking point will likely be the snowpack over a large portion of the state (mainly the north and northwest half). This may cause temperatures to be held down there and we may also see some fog as we head toward the middle to end of next week. There is still a lot of fluidity this far out with this but we should have a better handle on this early next week.

EXTENDED PERIOD: Looking at what the GFS is showing us in the extended period, temperatures are shown to be at or above seasonal levels through the 22nd before colder air comes in from the northwest. The model run is also showing most of the extended period to be quiet and dry until the 26th when some active weather looks to move in. Another system is shown at the end of the period just to the west of the state as well. Of course there’s plenty of time to watch for this and other systems, but nothing consistent has been seen in this period for the last few days so our confidence this far out remains low.
