No Thaw This Week

FEBRUARY FREEZE: There will not be any thawing anytime this week with a northwesterly flow and bitterly cold temperatures staying through the week. Highs will be in the teens and lower 20s across the state through the week with partly to mostly sunny skies. There are some chances of some light snow or flurries Wednesday and again on Friday, but this looks to be nothing more than a nuisance. Lows will likely drop into the single digits above and below zero with the colder readings in the heavier snowpack areas. The GFS shows a strong high pressure center nosing into the state Friday and Saturday which may bring even cooler readings to the state at that time. We have several days to watch this and adjust temperatures accordingly as we get closer.

VALENTINE FROM MOTHER NATURE: Sunday is Valentine’s Day and Mother Nature is looking to bring a little love in terms of more wintry precipitation. But it also looks to get warmer as well with readings possibly getting above freezing in our western counties with 20s in the eastern counties after a cold start to the day. The main system is shown to move through Sunday afternoon into first half of Monday with a chance of some snow. The best chance of seeing accumulating snow looks to be over the northeastern counties of the state. Colder is not shown following in the wake of this system, instead some warmer air is seen with readings well above freezing next Tuesday. We have plenty of time to watch things and fine tune so stay tuned for any updates on this system and possible warm up as well.

A LOOK AHEAD: Taking a glance at what the extended period is showing on the GFS, a system is seen on the model around the 18th through the 20th with a chance of some precipitation both in the form of rain and snow given the possible temperatures. Some cooler temperatures are seen toward the end of the period with some chance of a little activity but nothing that looks too serious at this time.
