Mid-Afternoon Blizzard Update: A Whiteout in Woolstock (Image)

Travel is very hazardous across the northern counties of the state. The image along I-35 near Woolstock shows why it is not safe to be driving in these areas. Visibility is reduced to zero even for a short period of time over a short distance. Blowing snow continues to be a problem along with ground blizzard conditions as well. Winds will begin to diminish later this evening and into the overnight. Wind chills will continue to be in the single digits above and below zero throughout the rest of today and into tonight. I-35 Southbound is closed (as of this writing) from Clear Lake to Ames (Northbound was briefly closed around US 20 but is open however it should be avoided at all costs.

Any and all county roads in the northern counties of the state should be taken at your own risk and should be regarded as impassable. If you don’t have to be out then don’t.
