Hit the Deck with Rainy Weather

A MISTLETOE STORM: Skies will partially clear over some parts of the state while the rest of the state will be socked in with the clouds. Highs today will be in the upper 30s north through the 40s south. The next storm system will be moving in from the southwest and some rain may break out across the state late tonight into Wednesday. Some of the precipitation may mix with a bit of sleet or snow in our northwestern counties during the afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday with the rest of the state seeing rain. A few rumbles of thunder could be possible in the far southeastern counties of the state. Highs on Wednesday will vary from the middle and upper 30s in the northwestern counties to the middle and upper 50s in the far eastern and southeastern counties of the state. Rainfall amounts up to a half inch could be possible with the heaviest totals seen the further east you are. Colder air will come in late Wednesday night that could switch the precipitation over to a rain snow mix before ending. Little or no accumulation is likely at this time.

CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE: As we head into Christmas Eve, skies will turn partly sunny with temperatures in the 30s and lower 40s. Another storm system will move into the state late Christmas Afternoon into the weekend with a good chance of rain across most of the state with some wintry precipitation mixed in across the western and northwestern counties of the state. The precipitation looks to changeover to a rain snow mix or all snow on Monday as the system departs slowly to the northeast. This is a system we will have to monitor over the next 48-72 hours. Precipitation amounts could be somewhat significant.

ENDING ONE BEGINNING ANOTHER: As we look at the extended period, colder air will move in to end the year but it doesn’t look to be overly cold with seasonal readings likely with partly to mostly sunny skies. As we ring in the New Year, warmer readings look to move back in from the west. This should boost temperatures into the 30s to near 40 for highs over the first couple days of the year. It looks to stay relatively quiet until the end of the period where the GFS has a system moving through that could bring a bit of precipitation to the state. Not very wintry in the first week of January with this run but we’ll see what the next couple of days will bring.
