Quiet Sunday But Ole Man Winter Returns Monday

Today: One more quiet weather day before our next winter storm moves in. Today looks to be a mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 30’s

Tonight: A mixed bag of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow will enter SW Iowa and gradually spread over the state Sunday night. Lows Sunday night will be in the mid 20’s north to the lower 30’s in Southern Iowa.

Upcoming: Monday looks to be a messy day across much of Iowa. A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for much of Western and Northern Iowa for Monday and Monday night. While some details as to the exact placement of snow, freezing rain, and rain are still coming into focus it does appear that areas of NW and North Central Iowa will receive the heaviest snow from this event with 6 to 10 inches possible. On the southern and eastern end of the watch lesser snow amounts are likely because the precipitation will be mixed with rain, freezing rain, and sleet. 2 to 4 inches of snow along with icy conditions from freezing rain look to setup in this portion of the watch.

Remember – Some of the fine details with this system are still being worked out by forecast models.  The forecast track could shift north or south as the system approaches and that will have an impact on the amount of snow and frozen precipitation people see. Please stay tuned to the Iowa Weather Network for further forecasts and information.
