Mid-Afternoon Update: Treacherous Roads North of I-80

The transition from rain to snow is just about complete with likely only a few areas of rain remaining in the far south. Light snow is falling all across the state with a heavy band seen around Prairie Du Chien area. Snow is only expected to increase as the night goes on with snowfall rates of 1-2″ possible. Things should clear western Iowa later this evening with snow continuing for central Iowa late through the night. Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect along and north of Interstate 80 with a Winter Weather Advisory south of that. Snow totals are already in the 8-10″ range for some areas with snow continuing.

Roads are completely covered for the vast majority of areas north of I-80, either in the form of snow or ice (likely snow). The east central and southern parts of the state have been dry so far, but this will likely change as the night goes on.
