Late Evening Update: Just Stay Off the Roads, Please

A look at the radar across the day shows clearing finally occurring in western Iowa. I would suspect the western one-third of the state will be cleared of snow by the 10:00 p.m. hour with the central one-third by 1:00 – 2:00 a.m. With the snow being cleared out, warnings and advisories have began to be dropped across western Iowa:

Road conditions continue to be treacherous and you should absolutely not travel tonight unless you have to. Travel is officially not advised across Waterloo and areas west, with many other roads being completely covered, including all roads in northwestern Iowa. Southwestern Iowa should be cleaned up soon, and isn’t too bad. East Central and Southeastern Iowa haven’t gotten too bad yet, however this will likely change as the night goes on. The bottom line tonight is that you should only have to travel in an emergency. Several accidents have already occurred tonight, and we’d like to prevent anymore from occurring.

Tow bans also remain in effect for much of the state, including many counties along Interstates 35 and 80. If you get stuck, your car will likely not get towed until morning, so bear that in mind.
