The Rainy Doldrums of Mid November

MIRKY DAYS: Rain will be the main weather story today and tomorrow with a storm system coming in from the southwest. This will bring some showers and even a few embedded thunderstorms as well. Severe weather is not expected but some heavy rains could be possible with most places receiving at least three quarters of an inch of precipitation by the time the system moves out late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Some areas will get significantly more than that. Highs today will be in the 50s and lower 60s across the state. Colder air will move in Wednesday night into Thursday as the storm lifts out. This could change the precipitation over to a rain snow mix in our northern counties but this shouldn’t amount to a whole lot at this time.

THE END OF WEEK SYSTEM: The GFS has been hinting at a storm at the end of the week coming in Friday that could bring us a cold rain or a wintry mix across the state. This precipitation could fall in the form of snow during the overnight hours. There is still a lot of uncertainty at this time regarding this system, but it will need to be monitored over the next day or so for any possible changes. Highs will be in the 40s through the end of the week with the passage of the first system earlier in the week with lows at night dropping well into the 20s.

THE WEEKEND: The weekend looks to be rather clear and cool outside some early lingering clouds in the eastern counties Saturday morning from the system we mentioned earlier. Highs will be in the 40s both Saturday and Sunday at this time with full sunshine around on Sunday across the state.

THANKSGIVING WEEK ON AHEAD: Taking a look into the extended period which takes us through Thanksgiving, the rest of November and into the first few days of December, temperatures look to moderate to seasonal levels as we head toward the middle of next week. Thanksgiving is shown to be dry with an increase in cloudiness ahead of a storm system that may come in late Thanksgiving night into Black Friday. At this point, the GFS shows it in the form of rain, but with Thanksgiving still more than a week away, models are likely to change things. Temperatures stay close to seasonal levels as we head into December with the model showing another storm system moving in around the 2nd with some precipitation possible at that time.
