We are approaching a very historical marker in Des Moines this week. We are coming very close for the latest freeze record, a record that currently goes to November 11th. As of today, November 10th it has yet to freeze at Des Moines. The coldest so far being 34 and the forecast the next couple of nights calls for the warmth to continue. If we surpass all of tomorrow and at least get into Thursday without hitting 32 it will go down as the new latest freeze on record. A record that has stood for 133 years set in 1882! All this warmth has made for a rare scene across this part of Iowa with tender annuals & tropical still being alive as we approach mid November. Normally I would have cut flowers back and changed over to fall decor weeks ago but I have not been able to because the annuals are still looking like July. The annuals are also the biggest I’ve ever seen since they got a 219 day freeze free season this year from April 5th to current. Normally the first freeze hits Des Moines October 19th. We are 3 weeks behind what is “typical”
