Warm Wednesday

ONE MORE DAY: Another day of sunshine and warmth across the state. Highs will make it into the upper 60s to lower and middle 70s for the most part. There will be an increase in cloudiness from the west by the afternoon hours which will lead to some chances of showers and a few thunderstorms tonight into Thursday and Thursday night. Rainfall amounts will generally average around a quarter inch or so but some places could see much higher amounts especially in areas with thunderstorms or repeated activity. Severe weather is not anticipated at this time.

DOWN AND BACK UP: Cooler air will move in proceeding the frontal passage Friday into Saturday with temperatures in the 50s for highs and lows in the 30s. We could see some lingering showers early on Friday in our eastern counties before they move off to the east. Skies will slowly clear from west to east during the day on Friday. Saturday will be partly to mostly sunny with readings in the 50s again for the most part across the state. Winds will switch around to the southwest as we head into Sunday which should help boost readings back into the 60s for some with mainly sunny skies around.

NEXT WEEK: Warm weather will continue Monday and Tuesday of next week with readings in the 60s for the most part under mostly sunny skies. This will be ahead of another storm system that looks to move through the state Wednesday through early on Friday of next week. This system which would need to be watched over the next several days could bring quite a bit of precipitation to the state. This is about all we know at this point but we should be able to pinpoint this system further later this week or this weekend.

OVER THE HORIZON: Looking beyond next week, the GFS has and up and down pattern taking place with several shots of colder air coming in from the northwest followed by another warm up toward the end of the period around the 17th and 18th of the month. This has been the pattern of late with above average temperatures with some brief cool period where temperatures drop below average for a time. This model suggests that this looks to continue at least for the next two weeks. We’ll see.
