It felt more like summer today then it did early November as highs climbed to the upper 70s to just shy of 80. Levels which are more typical for the end of August! These temperatures were brought on by strong southerly winds up to 30MPH with a warm airmass that is entrenched across the eastern half of the U.S. You have to go back to 2006 to find the last time we’ve seen this type of warmth this late in the season. Des Moines which officially hit 79.F today broke today’s record high and was only 3 degrees shy of the all time monthly record of 82. Typically we would have temperatures in the 50s statewide this time of year, because of this many took advantage of the warmth and did things outside today. Adding to this strangely warm weather is the fact that the southwestern 1/4th of Iowa has yet to see a killing freeze so tender annuals continue to flower as though its July. Below is a list of high temperatures seen across the state today, enjoy the summer-like warmth as it looks to stick around for at least a couple more days!
